CHARLES BYRD, Technical Advisor
Charles Byrd advises MissionPoint on research and due diligence associated with energy technology, services, and project developers. Prior to MissionPoint, Charles served as a managing director of Ritchie Capital Management where he led technology and operational due diligence for the firm’s $1 billion multi-strategy energy fund and was a member of the board of Adaptive Thermal Technologies (industrial heat management). Prior to Ritchie, Charles directed the Disruptive Technologies Program of GE Global Research where, from 2001 to 2005, he led over three thousand evaluations of strategic technologies, services, patents and industry trends (spanning mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering, materials science and physics) for GE Energy, GE Aircraft Engines, and GE Transportation. Prior to GE, Charles served in increasingly senior technical roles with Sun Microsystems (Thermal Management) and FMC Technologies (Oil & Gas). He has been awarded over 40 issued patents in energy and propulsion fields and been a US Department of Energy Fellow in Ultra-Relativistic High Energy Nuclear Physics at BNL, LBL, CERN (Geneva), and IKF-Frankfurt Germany. Charles received his BA and MSc in Physics & Applied Science from the University of Arkansas.
