ANDREW ERIKSSON
Andrew Eriksson worked at ABB Group (Zürich) for 16 years, last serving as Group Executive Vice President and member of the Group Executive Committee from 2001-2002. Prior to his Group role, Dr. Eriksson held various executive positions with global operational responsibilities for specific product businesses in the Transmission & Distribution sector. ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. With a market capitalization of approximately $61.0 billion (NYSE: ABB), the ABB Group operates worldwide and employs some 110,000 people.
Dr. Eriksson retired from ABB in 2002 to focus on management practice and corporate governance and is a Director of MissionPoint’s portfolio company, Advanced Aerofoil Technologies AG as well as an independent member of board of The Performance Group As. in Oslo. Before relocating to Switzerland in 1986, he worked in engineering research and consulting with the National Electrical Engineering Laboratories (NEERI) of the South African CSIR, where he was Assistant Director from 1984-1985. Dr. Eriksson’s international work included pioneering studies on the effects of lightning on electrical engineering systems in collaboration with CIGRE and IEEE. In the early 1980’s he served as professor (Honorary) at the University of Witwatersrand and also launched a successful private consulting practice focusing on electrical and industrial power system disturbances. Dr. Eriksson is a Fellow of the IEEE (USA), the IET (UK) and the SAIEE (South Africa) as well as a Member the Institute of Directors and an Honorary Member of CIGRE, where he served as chairman of the CIGRE international study committee on power system insulation coordination from 1989-1996. He has published more than 40 papers and received several awards, including the Silver Medal of the SAIEE (1978) and the IEEE Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and Distribution Award (2004).
Dr. Eriksson was born in Tanzania and raised in South Africa, where he received the M.Sc in electrical engineering from the University of Kwazulu Natal, and his Ph.D in 1979.
